Purpose: To examine the impact of the Great Depression and the New Deal on a person's life.


Method: Select a person, research the Great Depression and New Deal using primary sources, create a page presenting the era from this person's perspective using a variety of media, text, photo, music, cartoons, and any other content

Directions:


  1. Work with one other person and select one of the following people from the Depression
    • farmer
    • union member, working
    • woman
    • unemployed worker
    • veteran of World War I
    • man who lost everything in the collapse of the stock market and banks
    • migrant
    • minority-African-American, Mexican-American
    • other-Native American
    • business owner

Focus: Include the following required areas:

  • your life before the Depression

  • impact of the Depression on you

  • view and hopes for the New Deal programs

  • your view of Franklin Roosevelt

Resources

Create a page with your person's identity and your group members' first names and last initials

    • Use the page to present "How the Great Depression affected me."
    • Use text and many other types of presentation
    • Make this personal from your person's view
    • Under each part post a link labeled Source, and link it to url of the actual source
    • Be creative; no more than 50% may be text

The culminating activity will be a round-table class discussion with one another in the voice and person of your selection.
